Book Blogger Hop – 9/9 – Genre?
It is Friday again, folks. In Missouri it is a cool, grey day with the last of Hurricane Lee rolling across us and dumping rain. Ugly day. But, it’s time again for Jennifer’s Book Blogger Hop from Crazy for Books!
Our question for today is: “Many of us primarily read one genre of books, with others sprinkled in. If authors stopped writing that genre, what genre would you start reading? Or would you give up reading completely if you couldn’t read that genre anymore?”
What a horrible, world ending thought! I mostly read fantasy and I want to say that about 97% of what I read is in that genre. I would sorely miss fantasy books if they just suddenly disappeared and I think my reading would be drastically cut back due to their absence. But, I’m a swinger and would be able to find some other genres to read if I had to. I occasionally enjoy some paranormal, mystery, historical fiction, and science fiction. There might even be some contemporary fiction snuck in there if I find a good one. I think the last time I read a non-fiction book I was still back in college, about 5 years ago.
Reading is an escape and the farther away from the real world I can get, the better I like the book. This is why I like fantasy so much. The lands and peoples in fantasy books can be so different from our own it’s like jumping a spaceship and landing on another planet. I like seeing different things in books, things that could never happen in our world. It’s a means of escaping our boring, everyday lives. I could read other things besides fantasy but I’d miss the hell out of it.
