30 Day Book Meme – Day Nine
Day 09 – A book you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving?
I’m going to have to double back on myself to answer this one. Some of my favorites; Sherlock Holmes, the Arthurian legends, The Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland; I viewed with dread before reading them. They are all stories I consider to be “classics” and I loathe that word. To me, “classic” merely means a hard to understand, archaic writing style that has to be slogged through. Much like trying to understand Shakespeare; best done with cliff notes.
But Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s writing was so sharp and quick that it escaped being lethargic and The Lord of the Rings ended up being so epic that I couldn’t not love it. The Arthurian legends are so broad that it’s impossible to not find something to love and Alice in Wonderland is like a drug for kids. I never thought I’d end up loving what would become my favorite books.
