Booking Through Thursday – Mystery or Love story?

It is Thursday again, readers. That means it is time for another Booking Through Thursday meme post. (Because I have nothing better to do with my morning!) This week, our prompt is:

All things being equal, which would you prefer– a mystery? Or a love story?

Definitely a mystery. Neither are my favorite genre but I find straight love stories pretty boring. My Mother devours bodice-ripper love stories and penny-dreadfuls like cheap candy but I can’t stand them. When I was a young teen, I stole some of her books and read them because I had figured out there was sex in them. Ugh, all I did was lose a few hours of my life I’ll never get back. It wasn’t even good sex. I’d much rather read a mystery than a love story.

But you really can’t read most books these days without some sort of love story plot. Most fantasy young adult books (my favorite genre) at least have a love story subplot. You can never truly get away from the love story. Even Harry Potter had Ginny. (shrug)
